The development of an efficient hydrogen infrastructure is a key prerequisite for the success of the energy transition. AquaDuctus is one of the first major infrastructure projects designed to facilitate precisely this connection. An offshore hydrogen pipeline is planned that will transport green hydrogen produced in the North Sea and by other North Sea countries to the German mainland and feed it into the emerging onshore hydrogen core network. This will create a crucial interface between offshore wind energy and the industrial use of hydrogen on land.

AquaDuctus emerged from the AquaVentus e.V. hydrogen initiative. The project sponsor is AquaDuctus Pipeline GmbH – a wholly owned subsidiary of the transmission system operator GASCADE. TePm was involved in the project at an early stage through existing contacts in the AquaVentus network and has been supporting the establishment of central project structures ever since.

An essential part of our work was the development of the funding strategy and the preparation of the funding application. TePm structured the application process, coordinated the contributions of the project team and compiled the necessary information into a consistent application. At the same time, we supported the development of important project instruments, including the development of a project handbook and the preparation of central contracts for engineering and research services.

Our involvement in the AquaDuctus project has significantly expanded our experience in the development of large-scale energy infrastructure. At the same time, we were able to further expand our network in the hydrogen industry and gain valuable insights into the technical, regulatory and organizational requirements of future hydrogen pipelines. AquaDuctus thus exemplifies the next phase of the energy transition: the development of an infrastructure that makes renewable energy in the form of hydrogen usable on a large scale.

The AquaDuctus project is supported by public funds from the Federal Republic of Germany and the European Union within the framework of the IPCEI Hydrogen, also has PCI status and is part of the hydrogen core network.
